It's been a long road home for Marine Sargeant Ben Tomlinson of Jacksonville. After being shot while serving in Afghanistan, Tomlinson was paralyzed and spent several months recovering in a Florida VA hospital. Today the community welcomed him home for a short program in the city square.
Tomlinson graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2006 and joined the USMC the next year. He served two tours in Afghanistan as a gunner as part of a Marine Force Recon team. He has earned several military honors, including two Purple Hearts and a Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal. According to a press release about his return, Tomlinson hopes to return to college after he is formally discharged from the USMC.
