Deputies: Man tried to hire hit man, pay in monthly installments

CALHOUN COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- A Calhoun county man is accused of trying to hire a hit man and even asked to make monthly payments.

David Wahl is charged with attempted murder for hire. Calhoun County investigators say the man allegedly asked a female friend of the intended target about hiring a hit man. Authorities say that the intended victim and her friend came to the sheriff's Office in Anniston Monday evening to alert authorities to the situation.

Investigators say the would-be victim was an ex-girlfriend and co-worker. Authorities say an undercover officer posing as a potential "hit man" was able to get a lot details, including Wahl's desire to tell the woman, "This is from David." Investigators say he even discussed paying on an installment plan.

"He wanted to make a contract to kill her," Matthew Wade, Calhoun County Chief Sheriff's Deputy, said. "But he, as a man of budgetary limits…he wanted three monthly installments of $500 for a grand total of $1,500, to have his ex-girlfriend killed."

Wahl is being held in the Calhoun County Jail without bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 13. Wahl is also on probation for menacing, after authorities say he shot at a car belonging to the victim's ex-husband.
