Alabama for Oklahoma Animals taking donations for pets

Time to give and help others! A group that worked together after the April 27, 2011 tornadoes in Alabama is now collecting donations for the animals affected by the tornado that hit Oklahoma. The group has formed a Facebook page and is calling themselves Alabama for Oklahoma Animals.

A semi has been donated to collect donations, along with a driver who is donating his time to take the much needed items to Oklahoma.

Here is a list of items needed:

Crates

Pet food (dry/wet)

Cat litter

Cat litter pans

Blankets

Towels

Bedding

Leashes

Collars

Food bowls

Water

Flea and tick meds (NO HARTZ)

Other medical supplies

Treats

Cleaning supplies that are safe for pets

Disposable gloves

22 Alabama cities to hold April walking tours

22 Alabama cities to hold April walking tours

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Tourism Department says 22 towns across the state will participate in the department's April Walking Tours.

The department's Brian Jones says more than 1,700 tours have been done since the program started 10 years ago. The free, hour-long tours of historic districts and courthouse squares will start at 10 a.m. on April 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Participating cities are Athens, Atmore, Birmingham, Butler, Courtland, Cullman, Decatur, Eufaula, Fairhope, Florence, Huntsville, Madison, Mobile, Monroeville, Montevallo, Montgomery, Phenix City, Prattville, Sheffield, Sylacauga, Tuscumbia and Wetumpka.

The City of Anniston has many celebrated features about itself including the downtown area and civil rights landmarks. Saturday, March 23, 2013 will also bring the City of Anniston one more memorable and celebrated highlights, in the form of the 20th Annual Woodland-Calhoun Century Challenge Bike Ride.

The Woodland-Calhoun Century Challenge Bike Ride, which will start at the City of Anniston’s Aquatics and Fitness Center in Anniston on McClellan, will feature the Chief Ladiga Trail and will offer challenges ranging from 25 to 100 mile options.
